As a Project Engineer I at BAE Systems SMS, you have significant responsibility and opportunity to contribute directly to the success of our programs. You will be accountable for managing and delivering a defined scope of work meeting all requirements within cost and schedule commitments. You will lead your team through all program phases, guiding technical discussions, technical collaboration, and making risk-based decisions.

What You’ll Do:
- Lead hardware development teams to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements from concept through hardware delivery of one or more of the following subsystems
- Spacecraft Structures
- Mechanisms
- Payload Structures
- Antennas and RF Electronics
- Mechanical Ground Support Equipment
- Generate baseline cost estimates, establish metrics and track performance (earned value) on a recurring basis and provide updates to cost estimate and explanations on variances on a monthly cadence.
- Develop detailed development/build schedules and manage team activities to meet hardware delivery milestones.
- Proactively interact across the organization and Programs to prevent surprises, manage change control and identify/mitigate risks & opportunities.
- Technical management of subcontracts.
- Post design sustaining engineering.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
