Responsibilities
- Prepares finished products for shipment or storage by placing them in shipping containers, the specific operations performed being dependent upon the type, size, and number of units to be packed, the type of container employed, and method of shipment.
- Work requires the placing of items in shipping containers or specially constructed crates, packages or containers necessary to meet legal and regulatory requirements and protect the item(s) in transit.
- Reviews MSFC Form 57 for completeness, accuracy and proper identification of contents, and additional package labeling requirements.
- Designs and fabricates shipping containers and packing materials.
- Operates and maintains crating construction equipment including table saws, band saws, nail guns, wrapping dispenser, banding machines, drill press, and various hand tools.
- Orders and manages construction and packaging materials.
- Inspects outgoing packaged items for unauthorized, contraband, and hazardous items or materials and notifies proper authorities as required.
- Inspects outgoing packages, containers IAW IATA and 49 CFR regulations, MSFC, and NASA policies and regulations and identifies and reports discrepancies.
Qualifications
- Associates degree and 3 years experience or 5 years equivalent experience without a degree.
- Ability to obtain and maintain current IATA and 49 CFR certification (on-line training provided).
- Forklift and Program Critical Hardware (PCH) Forklift Certification required (on-line & proficiency training provided)
