Individual will work independently with little or no supervision and make key decisions when diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of Standard and NATO weapons at the -20, -30, and -40 levels of maintenance. The gunsmith duties include inspecting, repairing, and replacing bolts, stocks, barrels, pistol grips, bolt stock assemblies, barrel extensions, recoil buffers, upper receivers, feed trays, and drive rod assemblies. In addition to performing these major repairs, the gunsmith must also repair and replace tripods, bipods and mounts. The gunsmith’s work must be in compliance with current Technical Manual/Regulations. They must be able to interpret/extrapolate technical data, understanding the theory and functioning of the weapon in order to diagnose and repair weapons to a mission capable standard.
The Gunsmith must be Subject Matter Expert when instructing classes on the use of the weapon to include assembly, disassembly, care and maintenance, functioning, performing corrective actions, and firing. In addition to performing -20, -30, and -40 levels of maintenance on US standard weapons, gunsmiths must also be technically competent in performing the same level of maintenance on Theater specific foreign weapons when required.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge/understanding of AR 750-1, AR 700-4, and DA PAM 750-8 and other applicable maintenance publications, regulations, guidelines, etc.
- Working knowledge (required) or proficiency (preferred) with GCSS-Army, The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS), and Logistics Information Warehouse (LIW).
- Be technically knowledgeable of assigned material, Army field maintenance organizations and operations, and the national and retail supply system.
- Possess active listening and strong communication skills.
- Exhibit exceptional customer service at all times by proactively identifying users’ needs, answering questions, and providing on-site logistics and technical assistance.
- Receive, review, log, track, and follow-up on requests for weapons logistics assistance to ensure that requirements are completed in a timely manner.
- Augment existing maintenance systems to ensure all weapons are properly maintained IAW manufacturer’s recommendations, Army regulations, DOD and local policy, and general maintenance practices.
- Assist the Government with necessary training, management policy oversight, inspection and maintenance assistance, and augmentation to battalion armorers.
Perform weapons inspections and repairs, replace bolts, stocks, barrels, pistol grips, bolt stock assemblies, barrel extensions, recoil buffers, upper receivers, feed trays, and drive rod assemblies. Repair and replace tripods, bipods and mounts.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Proficiency in other/additional Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
- Be able to work independently, with little or no supervision.
Qualifications
- Must poses or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance and be trained in either in civilian industry or Military producing MOS.
- Have at least one year experience sustaining/repairing SOF-p weapons and accessories in order to be considered proficient (required); or at least three years of said experience in order to be considered expert (preferred).
- Possess skills equal to or greater than Army MOS-91F personnel.
- Have completed the USASOC SOF-p Weapons Repair Course (previously called the Joint Armorers Course) (preferred) or be willing to obtain this qualification (required).
