STS Technical Services is hiring a Structural Design Engineer to join our client’s growing engineering team in Aiken, South Carolina. This is a key role supporting large-scale design, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects. Position Summary:
As a Structural Design Engineer, you’ll perform detailed engineering calculations, provide technical input across disciplines, and contribute to the success of high-impact projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you’ll apply your knowledge of civil and structural design to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze technical challenges and recommend practical solutions
- Develop, review, and update engineering specifications and design criteria
- Conduct and verify structural calculations for steel and concrete elements
- Select appropriate materials, systems, and equipment for assigned projects
- Coordinate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve design issues
- Monitor work for quality, compliance, and adherence to project scope and deadlines
- Track material quantities and support construction forecasts and reports
- Participate in procurement activities, including bid evaluations and submittal reviews
- Respond to RFIs and provide technical guidance during construction
- Support change documentation and ensure design integrity during project execution
Minimum Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Familiarity with structural codes and standards at federal, state, and local levels
- Experience with EPC projects in commercial or industrial environments
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of structural analysis tools and design software
- Experience with 3D modeling and 2D CADD tools in multi-discipline settings
Structural Discipline Requirements:
- Proficiency in hand and software-based calculations for foundations and framing systems
- Working knowledge of STAAD, STAADPro, RISA-3D, and Mathcad
- Familiarity with wind and seismic load analysis
- Exposure to blast-resistant design principles and structural modeling
- Understanding of dynamic loading and structural system behavior
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience designing under ASME NQA-1 standards
- Familiarity with DOE or federal agency project requirements
- Structural design experience in nuclear, biotech, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing sectors
- Field experience supporting construction and technical implementation
- Advanced proficiency in STAADPro and Mathcad
