STS Technical Services is hiring a Senior Structural Design Engineer in Aiken, South Carolina. Position Summary:
As a Senior Structural Design Engineer, you’ll take ownership of project areas, guide engineering teams, and ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance. This role demands advanced technical knowledge, leadership in multi-discipline environments, and strong coordination with internal and external stakeholders across all phases of project execution.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as Area Lead under the direction of the Discipline Lead Engineer
- Provide technical direction and oversight for engineers and designers
- Analyze and resolve complex technical issues in alignment with project goals
- Develop and review structural design criteria, specifications, and documentation
- Perform and verify calculations; specify materials, systems, and equipment
- Lead cross-discipline coordination with clients, vendors, and project teams
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, schedules, scopes, and budgets
- Create and review estimates, forecasts, and progress reports
- Track and analyze key material quantities and provide construction forecasts
- Support procurement activities, including bid evaluations and submittal reviews
- Offer technical support during construction, including RFIs and field change responses
Basic Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards at the federal, state, and local levels
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
- High attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience with EPC project environments on large industrial builds
- Skilled in 3D modeling and 2D CADD tools in collaborative engineering settings
Structural Discipline Requirements:
- Expertise in structural analysis and design for concrete and steel systems
- Advanced use of STAAD, STAADPro, RISA-3D, and Mathcad
- In-depth knowledge of:
- Wind and seismic load calculations
- Blast-resistant design principles
- Dynamic structural analysis
- Structural modeling and system behavior
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with material cost drivers and procurement variables
- Experience designing under ASME NQA-1 quality standards
- Demonstrated leadership on large, multidisciplinary engineering projects
- Proficiency with schedule creation, progress tracking, and close-out procedures
- Field experience supporting real-time project execution
- EPC experience in one or more of the following sectors:
- U.S. Department of Energy
- Nuclear facilities with QA protocols
- Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or manufacturing
