Job Description BAE Systems, Inc. is looking for a highly motivated engineer/scientist to lead process and product development activities at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. This position would be taking a lead on a variety of projects in our Research and Development (R&D) group including transitioning new materials to production.
As a Senior Research and Development Engineer, you will work with scientists and engineers to design and develop new propellants and new propellant manufacturing processes for commercial and government use.
Interested candidates should exhibit sound judgment, initiative and self-motivation, and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision. Solid communication, teamwork and integration skills will be required to work effectively across functions at multiple levels. The ability to manage time effectively while dealing with a variety of issues in a dynamic environment will be key to the success of this individual.
The successful candidate will under his/her own initiative:
- Devise and refine safe, effective, and efficient methods of manufacturing energetic formulations.
- Undertake experiments using hazardous materials in a safe manner.
- Specify lab and pilot equipment in support of development experiments and lab, pilot, and full scale process development.
- Support BAE production departments with troubleshooting process and product problems.
- Maintain adequate records of work and present in a form suitable for management and legal reporting.
- Carry out propellant formulation and manufacture, including but not limited to, manufacture of extruded double base (EDB) solventless propellants.
