Job Description:
The Lead Quality Engineer is responsible for leading a team of quality engineers to set-up and operate the quality systems for Leap, 9X, and T901 shroud Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) components. Provides leadership, and mentorship as an individual contributor, fostering a culture of collaboration with all functions in Asheville as well as raw material supply and downstream customers. Success in this role will be measured by ensuring quality of on-time delivered product, driving continuous improvement in yield, and process efficiency.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Lead Quality Engineer for Shrouds and Liners, you will play a critical role in driving quality excellence, process capability, and compliance within the manufacturing environment. You will lead and coach a team of quality engineers, fostering accountability and ownership of key goals while ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Team Leadership and Goal Setting:

    • Organize and lead the shroud quality engineering team around strategic goals focused on quality, process capability, cost, and compliance.
    • Coach and mentor team members to take ownership of these goals and drive accountability.
  • Process and Product Improvement:

    • Coordinate and implement process and product improvement programs to enhance manufacturing efficiency and quality.
    • Provide expertise in process methods and best practices both within the team and across the organization.
  • Performance Optimization:

    • Motivate the team to achieve measurable improvements in asset utilization, manufacturing loss reduction, delivered quality, delivery performance, and cost reduction.
    • Collaborate with the team to understand business and financial metrics, enhancing individual and team capabilities.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement for all assigned products and processes.
    • Drive Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) initiatives to address quality and compliance issues effectively.
  • APQP and New Product Introduction:

    • Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) initiatives to ensure successful new product introduction and ongoing quality control.
  • Supplier and Service Provider Interface:

    • Work closely with external service providers and suppliers to meet quality and process capability requirements.
  • Technical and Production Leadership:

    • Provide technical guidance and leadership to the team, ensuring alignment with production goals and quality standards.
    • Collaborate with design, materials, and supporting organizations to industrialize manufacturing processes.
  • Customer Service and Communication:

    • Encourage the team to deliver the highest levels of internal and external customer service.
    • Effectively communicate key issues and updates to the team and senior leadership.
  • Resource Planning and Scheduling:

    • Support organizational planning for manpower, equipment, and other resources to meet production demands.
    • Work with the team on production scheduling and hardware flow to meet customer requirements.
  • Employee Development:

    • Assess team maturity and individual training needs, adapting leadership style to enhance performance and development.
  • Accountability and Reporting:

    • Represent the team in senior leadership reviews, providing updates on progress, challenges, and solutions.
    • Function as the Product Quality Engineer (PQE) for Shrouds and Liners, ensuring product quality and compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 3 years working in a Quality Function

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including strong communication, decision-making, and collaboration skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset with analytical thinking and a willingness to challenge existing processes.
  • Technical expertise, including proven knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
