Role Overview:
The Controls/Automation Engineer is responsible for the complete design and maintenance for packaging equipment lines. This process includes defining required specifications, system architecture, description of operation, hardware and software design, design implementation and support.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work cohesively with a design team made up of sales, project management, mechanical engineering, vendors, controls engineers, and technicians to develop working concept that meets customer requirements.
- Provide on call electrical support for customer, IPM controls and technician installation teams.
- Manage project schedule throughout engineering, manufacturing and installation phases to ensure timely release of packaging equipment.
- Consult with customers, engineers and vendors regarding project specs and scope of project.
- Verify design and installation will comply with customer specs/requirements.
- Review electrical specifications and drawings of vendor equipment for purchase.
- Rework design on legacy systems and non-IPM designs to work cohesively together.
- Draft controls documents for use by technicians.
- Partner with electrical group to draft bid packages and define scope of work.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Controls Engineering and/or Automation Engineering
- This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active security clearance or the ability to obtain clearance
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing Assembly (DFMA)
- Experience with robotics in high volume environment
- Experience in high volume production environment
- 5+ years of experience with new product introduction/launch/development
- 5+ years of experience leading Lean and/or Continuous Improvement initiatives
- Strong manufacturing process knowledge and mechanical / electronics design exposure
- Proficient with various software MS Office, Oracle or other ERP program
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
